Julie

Julie Eötvös – Principal Teacher of Piano and Theory, Songwriting and Composition & Pre-piano classes

Music has been the most vital part of Julie’s life since she began lessons at the age of four. Deciding at an early age that she wanted to be a concert pianist, her musical journey began in Sydney and has seen her emerge as an outstanding soloist and accompanist. Julie has performed extensively throughout Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania, including a solo recital at the Sydney Opera House, and at the Alfred Hall in Canberra.

From 1984 Julie was involved in chamber music recitals in the Southern Highlands of N.S.W., Wollongong, Goulburn and Sydney, and more recently in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast. Between 1989 – 1996 her performances have included being accompanist and special guest soloist with the Lyric Opera Company on the Gold Coast, soloist for many variety concert for the MTAQ, and as a soloist at the 80th Birthday Celebration for Dulcie Holland, who was in attendance, when she performed several of the noted Australian composers’ works.

In terms of her teaching career, Julie developed a love for teaching while studying for her performance diplomas. She decided to do further study in the area of music education and went on to complete her Teacher of Music Australia (TMusA), and the Licentiate of Teaching Trinity College of London, (LTCL), which she added to her Licentiate of Performing Australia (LMusA). After this Julie entered university as a mature age student and completed her Bachelor of Arts at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. Julie also is an examiner for the Music Examination Board known as  Australia and New Zealand Cultural Arts Ltd, who provide a  wonderful and innovative music examination syllabus for students wishing to undertake instrumental music, singing and theory of music.

Even though her teaching schedule has been quite demanding,  Julie has continued with regular performances, and has been associated with many wonderful musicians and singers over the years having organized a series of monthly and seasonal soirées that began  at Squires Inn, a very popular restaurant on Tamborine Mountain formerly owned by Michael and Alla Ward who are nowadays more famously renowned for their award winning spirits and liqueurs created at the ever popular Tamborine Mountain Distillery

Later Julie went on to join forces with colleague and coloratura soprano Deborah Lea Russell as co-founder of the Four Seasons Soirées – an afternoon concert held each season where both young upcoming instrumentalist and singers performed alongside professional musicians. Their first ever Autumn Soiree in April 2004 was a huge success and has continued to have a loyal following to this day.

The driving force behind the Four Seasons soirées came from Julie and Deborah’s passion for their art. The desire was to both mentor and inspire young performers to develop their own individual gift of music, and to  help provide a platform for these young people to showcase their talent.

To this day Julie believes that as a concert pianist and music educator, there is no greater calling for a musician than sharing their gift of music and imparting its true beauty and meaning to others. Equally important is helping to cultivate intelligent listeners of music in our community and assist in the development of a more cultured society.

And as a music educator Julie feels that there is a tremendous responsibility for us  as teachers to serve as an inspiration to our students and to be remembered as having been a positive influence in their lives.
Julie likes to add that she indeed has had the privilege of raising many talented young performers, and has seen them go on to become fine performers in their own right both here and overseas.
As well as running a very busy private studio, Julie is presently part of the instrumental staff at The Southport School where she is a senior piano and theory tutor.

*Julie is also available to make special backing tracks according to your preference in the following styles: classical piano/ instrumental or accompaniments for operatic arias etc. Jazz and popular styles can also be accommodated.
